As a senior photographer, I totally get it:  booking your senior session can be intimidating especially if you feel like you aren’t really sure where to begin. So I am here to help answer a few questions that might be on your mind! 

Here are four things you need to consider when booking your senior portrait session:

1) Finding your senior photographer

My best advice when it comes to finding your senior photographer? Find a photographer that speaks to who YOU are! Take some time to research high school senior photographers whose style speaks to you. Look at their portfolios, read reviews from other customers, and ask around for referrals from friends who have used them in the past. 

My philosophy? Capturing your personality and exactly who you are in this specific moment in time. 

Pro Tip:

It’s okay to ask a photographer if you can see a full gallery from one of their sessions before booking.

This is something that is huge in the wedding industry, too! Because as the client, you should feel confident in knowing that your photographer’s work is consistent throughout their website, social media, and full galleries that they deliver to clients. You don’t just want a few photos from your session to turn out good, you want the whole gallery to be stunning from start to finish! ⁣

2) Timing is everything!

Think about what season best suits your style. From blazing sunsets in the summer to vibrant foliage in the fall, decide on what reflects both your personality and interests. Here in the midwest, the backdrop possibilities are endless!

3) When to book your senior portrait session

When to book your senior portrait session… That would be NOW! As a high school senior, the year flies by, truly! The last thing you want to be doing is having FOMO or scrambling because you didn’t book your senior photos in time. The SJP books are now open through December 2024. Please keep in mind, busy times book months in advance – yes, those favorite October sessions are going fast already!
